One man drowned when his car rolled over into a creek in Ligonier Township Sunday, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said.

Lees said 28-year-old Benjamin Leshow was traveling south on Route 271 just before 7 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove into some yards, taking out multiple utility poles before rolling over into a creek.

Leshow was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, Lees said.

Officials say a bystander saw Leshow in the water and pulled him out before emergency responders arrived.

According to Lees, Leshow was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:04 p.m. – the cause of death was ruled accidental drowning.

A toxicology report is pending.

Officials say they are not sure what led to the crash.
