DAUPHIN COUNTY — Pennsylvania State Police in Harrisburg have identified the victims involved in a fatal crash on Jonestown Road over the weekend that left three dead and another in critical condition. State Police say Mackenzie Patrick Mulroy, Zachary John Kijowski and Michael Edward Shovlin, all of Harrisburg, died in the single vehicle crash around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 in the area of 7015 Jonestown Road in West Hanover Township.
HANOVER, Pa. (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania bald eagle pair’s eaglet, who was once an “adorable fluffball,” is ready to take flight any day now, according to Raptor Ecology Specialist Zoey Greenburg.

Money Management International, one of the country's largest nonprofit credit counseling organizations, is seeing an increase in people 18-29 seeking its help.
“What we're seeing is that the younger adults are growing at a faster rate, and the level of debt they're carrying is growing at a faster rate,” Thomas Nitzsche, a financial educator at MMI, said Friday.
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa — Cambria County’s District attorney and coroner announced Wednesday the death of a West Hills officer was caused by an overdose of drugs they said came from his department’s evidence storage.
The investigation surrounding his death has had an immediate ripple effect on court cases as well as local police departments around the county.
District Attorney Greg Neugebauer said drugs Sgt. Michael Beblar died from came from the evidence storage at the West Hills Regional Police Department.
Another year, another toll increase on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
This week, the Turnpike Commission approved a five percent toll increase for 2024.
The increase will take effect starting January 7th and will impact all E-Z Pass and toll by plate customers.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Family members of 54-year-old Denise Williams of Johnstown describe her as outgoing, loving, and caring.
"There was never a dull moment with her. You knew when she was around. She made everybody laugh," said her sister, Kim Banda.
Denise was stabbed to death last April during a Facebook marketplace transaction when she was attempting to purchase a refrigerator.
Her convicted killer, Joshua Gorgone, will now be spending the rest of his life in prison.
Cambria County controller Ed Cernic Jr. said about $70,000 went to five county employees at the end of last year.
The people are getting the stipends in large part because of the additional work they did after former chief clerk Michael Gelles died in April last year. The county is still without a chief clerk.
Officials said the employees role in implementing a new software system.
Cernic said he is the one that proposed the idea to the commissioners and when the salary board, made of the commissioners and the controller, voted on the stipends at the last commissioners meeting of 2023, the stipends passed with a 3-1 vote.
Officials in Clearfield County say they were able to make the needed improvements to keep the operating license for their Children, Youth, and Family Services (CYFS) for at least the next six months. Commissioner Dave Glass says they haven’t been able to fix every problem yet, but the state says they are on the ‘right trajectory.’
On Monday, the Department of Human Services sent out a release saying they revoked the license for Blair County Children, Youth, and Families (BCCYF) due to multiple violations, including a large backlog of reports.
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The man charged for his role in a deadly Bedford County crash that claimed the life of a teenager has reportedly pleaded guilty to multiple summary offenses in the case and has been ordered to pay an $850 fine.
Last March, police charged Jeffrey Miles Jr., of State College, following an investigation into a fatal, head-on collision near the intersection of Route 220 and Cumberland Road in Bedford Township in February of 2022.
Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Huntingdon County say an 83-year-old man is facing several felonies, accused of attempting to burn down a woman's home Monday morning with her still inside it.
According to a criminal complaint, Gary Harbst, of Huntingdon, faces numerous charges including attempted homicide, arson, aggravated assault and risking catastrophe.
Troopers say just before 8 a.m. Monday, Harbst reportedly drove his UTV from his residence along John Bum Road to the victim's home, located along the 7300 block of Fosters Road in Union Township.
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The Bellefonte Area school district is mourning the loss of one of their own after a tragic drowning accident over the weekend at Raystown Lake in Huntingdon County.
Officials say 16-year-old Nathan Dan passed away Saturday after drowning while swimming at the lake.
School officials say the return to the classroom was rough for everyone. The athletic director confirmed that Dan was a lacrosse player and that the team plans to honor him by wearing a sticker on their helmets with his number 15 on it.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Miller's Organic Farm is now facing a lawsuit for repeated violations of laws and regulations surrounding the sale of raw milk products.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture announced the lawsuit on Tuesday.
The complaint alleges that Miller's Organic Farm failed to obtain proper licenses and permits, sold illegal raw milk products and sold raw milk products outside of Pennsylvania. According to the Department of AG, these offenses put the farm in violation of Pennsylvania’s Milk Sanitation Law, Food Safety Act, Retail Food Facility Safety Act, and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.

LIGONIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — One man drowned when his car rolled over into a creek in Ligonier Township Sunday, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said.
Lees said 28-year-old Benjamin Leshow was traveling south on Route 271 just before 7 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove into some yards, taking out multiple utility poles before rolling over into a creek.
Leshow was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, Lees said.

University Park, PA (WJAC) — An architect and construction manager have been named for the long-awaited renovation project at Penn State's Beaver Stadium.
One of the people involved in the new design phase is Scott Radecic, a former Penn State linebacker.
Radecic's company, “Populus,” has done stadium design work worldwide.
Three other companies will spearhead the actual renovation construction at the stadium, which is expected to get underway at the end of the 2024 football season.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (TND) — A transgender athlete won a lawsuit against USA Powerlifting (USAPL), and a Minnesota court has subsequently ruled the sports organization must allow trans competitors in its women's divisions.

JASPER, Ala. (TND) — An Alabama radio station reported its 200-foot tower as stolen Monday.

DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — Police said they were dispatched to a home on Chestnut Street in DuBois Monday, where a man and woman were found dead in an upstairs bedroom.
DuBois police said they were notified by a family member who found them around 11 a.m.
Clearfield County Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder identified the pair as Ashley Ross, 24, of Clarington, and Nathan Forbes, 41, of DuBois.
Autopsies were performed Tuesday. Shaffer-Snyder said there was no apparent foul play and toxicology results are pending.
DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Human Society of Harrisburg (HSHA) is currently caring for over a dozen dogs that were rescued from a dangerous situation.
According to HSHA, 17 "small dogs and puppies" were found back in November by HSHA's Humane Law Officer.
The home they were living in was revealed to have been a house in Enola.
Acting quickly, HSHA has already began treating them as their matted fur, also found to be covered in feces, requires special attention.

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) — A Texas man was stung more than 400 times by honey bees.
"Bee wranglers" with the American Honey Bee Protection Agency removed and relocated a colony of bees from an abandoned boat in a wooded area in San Antonio on Thursday.
Hector Ramirez, a real estate agent, was stung by the bees on May 2 while he and his father were clearing land with a tractor.

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — This week, Sandy Township supervisors officially “discontinued" their lawsuit against the city of DuBois.
The lawsuit was filed last June to pause the consolidation process with DuBois in the wake of criminal charges being filed against their then city manager Herm Suplizio.
Sandy Township then began raising concerns about the city's financial situation, noting that once the consolidation is finalized, both municipalities would "assume all debts, liabilities and duties of each individual municipality.
Officials are asking the public to stop feeding birds as a disease that has been found to kill large numbers of songbirds, in some cases, has been discovered in Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission says they’ve received multiple reports from the southeast part of the state regarding of nestling and fledgling songbirds with ocular and neurological issues.
The game commission says that, in some cases, birds have been found dead in large numbers.
CLEARFIELD - Approximately $40,000 in jewelry was stolen from Zalno Jewelers in Clearfield County, according to police.
Police said a group of individuals entered the store around 6 p.m. Thursday and distracted the staff while a man removed three trays of jewelry.
Authorities said the burglars wore the same clothing and black-rimmed glasses.
Once the man left the store, another man and woman drove away in what appeared to be a dark-colored SUV, police said.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. — A Blairsville woman has died as the result of a single-vehicle crash in West Carroll Township early Sunday morning, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said.
According to Lees, Hannah Adams was travelling north on Deveaux Street just before 1:30 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve.
Lees said that Adams then lost control and hit a dumpster before striking a parked car.
According to Lees, Adams was taken to Conemaugh Miners Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at around 2:45 a.
ALTOONA -- This week Altoona police are waiting for blood-test results to determine charges for an officer who allegedly drove under the influence over the weekend, making him the third officer to face charges or citations in recent months.
Chief Janice Freehling said Monday that she does not condone any of this behavior and that "the matters are being dealt with."
Freehling said Officer Erik Stirk, who was off-duty at the time, was arrested and consented to blood tests.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A high-speed police pursuit Monday night ended with the driver dead after he crashed into a motorcycle shop in Big Run, Jefferson County, state police say.
The crash caused massive structural damage to the building of Best Kawasaki Motorcycles.
Around 10:30 p.m., Punxsutawney police say they attempted to pull over a red Dodge Caliber when it refused to stop.
They say it went on U.S. 119 into Big Run.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Police say an alleged drug dealer accused of causing the fatal overdose of a person was arrested Tuesday at a Cambria County rehabilitation facility.
According to the Altoona Police Department, 49-year-old Timothy Tombs is facing charges related to drug delivery resulting in death stemming from an investigation in April.
Officers say they were called to a home on the 1600 block of 12th Street April 14 for a suspected drug overdose.

The Black is Beautiful beer campaign is a collaborative effort to bring awareness to the injustices people of color face daily. The idea started at a brewery in Texas and has made its way to downtown Johnstown.
HARRISBURG, Pa (WJAC) — Several major changes could be coming ahead of the 2020 hunting season, and beyond, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
Game Commission officials discussed many changes at Saturday's Board of Commissioners meeting, all of which will receive a final vote at the next meeting in April.
The release says that some of the proposed changes would include new rules for the dual-carrying of bows and muzzleloaders, changes to deer-tagging requirements and the simplifying of mentor programs.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KUTV) — The Utah County Attorney's Office on Tuesday announced formal charges against Michael Aaron Jayne, who is accused of using a semi-truck to kill Santaquin Police Sgt. Bill Hooser during a traffic stop on May 5.
The announcement was made at a press conference the day after Hooser's memorial service in Orem. However, prosecutors said they’re not going to answer any questions about the case until the trial is over.

WASHINGTON (TND) — Senators in Connecticut voted in favor of a resolution to exonerate a dozen people who were convicted of witchcraft within the state at least 375 years ago. Eleven of the 12 were hanged, with 45 others accused. The Connecticut Witch Trial Exoneration Project, a group of volunteers that joined forces to clear the names of the accused, shared an image on Thursday. SAN JOSE, Calif. (TND) — A 3-year-old girl's death, now ruled a homicide, allegedly followed violent attempts to "exorcise" demons from the toddler.
Arely Naomi Proctor died in September 2021 after family members attempted to “liberate her of her evil spirits,” officials at a Northern California church told the San Jose Mercury News.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner ruled Arely's death a homicide by asphyxiation, according to the Associated Press.

SOMERSET- Controversy is unfolding in Somerset County over two litters of German shepherd puppies, soon to be up for adoption at the Humane Society.

Upper Darby Township, PA — Authorities say two children were killed in an early morning house fire in Upper Darby, Delaware County.
According to Fire Chief Derrick Sawyer, the fire began at about 4:03 a.m., at a residence along the 300 block of Margate Road.
Officials say when crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire on the second floor of the home.
Two children were killed in the fire, Sawyer said.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A Grove City man accused in the death of a 3-year-old boy made his first court appearance on Thursday, and was officially charged with murder on Friday.
Randy Mollett was arraigned on charges of reckless homicide and child endangerment on Thursday.
According to court documents, Mollett called 911 on April 13 to report a 3-year-old in his care had a seizure. The child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he died later.
BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — An Altoona couple is facing felony child endangerment charges after police say they overdosed early Wednesday morning with children in the home.
According to the Altoona Police Department, Colton Flannery and Rose Markle have both been charged with a felony and two misdemeanors.
Police say they were called just after midnight to the 200 block of Willow Avenue for reports of an unconscious woman.
They say dispatchers were told the woman had shallow breathing and that Narcan was given two times.
ALTOONA - A water line break along North 4th Street in Altoona is affecting dozens of customers. A release from the Altoona Water Authority said crews were repairing a line behind Holy Rosary Church Tuesday afternoon when a water line broke. Officials said that two dozen homes in the area will be without water for several hours. A Boil Water Advisory is in effect until further notice for the affected area.
The Conemaugh Township Volunteer Fire Department had an open house Saturday afternoon looking to recruit more firefighters.
Department President Jeff Marshall said, "We're trying to recruit because everyone's numbers are dwindling. A lot of fire departments in the area have the same problem where daytime especially there's not a lot of help like there used to be."

WINGATE, Pa. (WJAC) — A Centre County judge has upheld a state liquor control board decision not to grant a liquor license to a Sheetz store that's located next to schools in the Bald Eagle Area School District.
The Sheetz on South Eagle Valley Road in Wingate is located next to an elementary school and high school.
Sheetz appealed the LCB decision.
In rejecting the appeal, the judge cited the fact that the store is located next to not one but two school buildings.

(TND) — A father who allegedly drove his vehicle off a California cliff with his family inside was suffering from a psychotic break at the time of the incident, doctors testified in court. Dr. Dharmesh Arvind Patel, 42, was charged with three counts of attempted murder after allegedly driving his Tesla off a 250-foot cliff at Devil's Slide on Jan. 2, 2023, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's office.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa (WJAC) — According to court documents, a former Penn State employee has been charged with fraud, accused of purchasing computer and technology equipment, meant for the university servers, and selling it for his own personal profit.
Authorities say Daniel Sickels, formerly of Lewistown, Pa, worked for the university, from 2005 to 2017, as a network and systems manager. Investigators say Sickels was responsible for purchasing equipment to maintain the university's computer servers.
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say they are investigating the shooting deaths of two teenagers following an alleged robbery attempt in southeastern Pennsylvania. The Montgomery County district attorney and Norristown police said the shooting occurred in an alley in Norristown at about 8 p.m. Friday night. Police and prosecutors said their initial investigation indicated that the shooter was walking to his car from a home when two teenagers pulled a gun on him and tried to rob him.
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to multiple reports, now former University of Pittsburgh quarterback Kedon Slovis entered the NCAA transfer portal Monday and will not be returning to the Panthers next season.
Slovis spent three seasons with USC prior to transferring to Pitt this past February.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter says the decision will save Pittsburgh approximately $10 million in cap space.
The Steelers traded for Robinson last offseason, adding a veteran presence to the receiver room.
Robinson played in all 17 games last season for Pittsburgh, catching 34 passes for 280 total yards but no touchdowns.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The suspect accused of shooting two people last September at Oakhurst homes, killing one of them and wounding the other, appeared in Cambria County court on Tuesday where he waived his preliminary hearing.
In October, Jashon Gordon was arrested in Ohio in connection to the Sept. 22 shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Emerald Nugent Jr.
Officials say Nugent died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.
BELLEFONTE, Pa — Just last week, the Bellefonte Area School District updated their back-to-school plan for the fall. They already had two options in place, but, after hearing community feedback and seeing additional state guidelines, school district officials added a third option.

AMBRIDGE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a woman in western Pennsylvania shot and killed her two daughters. Ambridge police say 48-year-old Krisinda Bright called officers to the home on Monday afternoon. Interim Police Chief John Deluca says officers found "a gruesome scene" inside. The Beaver County coroner says 16-year-old Kiara Bright and 22-year-old Jasmine Cannady were shot in the head. Their mother was taken to the county jail and is charged with two counts of homicide.

FALLSTON, Md. (WBFF) — A woman died after she was trapped under a lawn mower in a drainage ravine, according to the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company (FVFAC).
FVFAC and Harford County Department of Emergency Services EMS Division were dispatched shortly before 5:15 p.m. for a lawn mower accident with traumatic injury.
The incident took place in the 2300 block of Willow Vale Dr. in Fallston.

Last October, police arrested Cameron Raubaugh following an investigation into an officer-involved incident in the parking lot of IUP's George P. Miller Stadium.

ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — US Foods announced plans to "transfer operations" from its Altoona warehouse, located along Shuma Drive, in September, resulting in 65 positions being eliminated.
Director of Media Relations Sara Matheu said that the company will be moving some of the Altoona operations to other US Foods' facilities, including those in Allentown and Greensburg.
The Altoona location will still be used as a shuttle yard, however, with 125 drivers and sales staff still employed.
SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — After Hurricane Laura left thousands of people in Louisiana without a home, some had to surrender their pets. Now, some of the animals have ended up in Western Pennsylvania due to overflowing animal shelters. Thirteen dogs are now at The Humane Society of Somerset County waiting to be adopted.

WASHINGTON (TND) — The Internal Revenue Service is expanding its program allowing Americans to file their taxes directly with the agency for free to all 50 states and making it a permanent option after what the agency saw as a successful trial run last tax season.
A program to directly file taxes with the IRS would be a significant shift for the U.S., where a majority of taxpayers rely on paid services from private companies and has resulted in one of the highest voluntary tax compliance rates in the world.
STATE COLLEGE---Penn State running back Saquon Barkley set freshman records this past season for the Nittany Lions.
He didn't disappoint in Wednesday's final winter workout. Barkley tied a team record by squatting 500 lbs., seven times. He also bench-pressed 390 lbs. and ran a 4.38 second forty-yard dash.

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Troopers say a teenager was killed in a Clearfield County crash Tuesday that injured two others.
According to state police, the crash happened on State Route 53 south of Brewery Road in Bigler Township around 8 a.m.
Troopers say a 17-year-old was driving southbound on SR 53 when his vehicle crossed into the opposing lane and collided with another vehicle head-on causing disabling damage.
According to state police, the other vehicle’s driver and passenger were injured and taken to UPMC Altoona for treatment.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — After 46 hours of non-stop dancing and other festivities at the Bryce Jordan Center this weekend, organizers of Penn State's THON have revealed this year's total amount raised in order to help fight childhood cancer was yet another record.
Volunteers revealed Sunday afternoon that the total raised this year is over $15 million.
Last year, THON raised $13.7 million. But next year's THON now has a new record to beat: $15,006,132.

That’s what state police say happened on I-80, early Tuesday morning in Centre County.

Police say a car was first disabled, on the roadway shoulder, after colliding with a tractor trailer.
VALENCIA, Pa. (AP) — An animal hospital in Pennsylvania has been evacuated over a leaking X-ray machine.
A hazmat team responded to Twinbrook Animal Clinic, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Pittsburgh, on Friday morning.
Crews say the leakage apparently filled a room with fumes and left one worker with a minor burn.
Officials told WPXI-TV that the substance isn't radioactive.
Hazmat crews are ventilating the building. No information has been released about what the substance might be.
Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Federal authorities announced that a Cambria County woman has been charged with conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud.
According to court documents, Florentina Mayko was charged after she allegedly defrauded Medicare and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, between 2017 and 2019.
Mayko allegedly submitted medically unnecessary urine drug tests for chronic opioid patients at medical clinics where she served as the chief executive officer.

State Police in Hazleton are releasing more details around the 57-year cold case that was solved this week. 9-year-old Marise Ann Chiverella was raped and murdered on March 18, 1964. Her case went cold. The killer's DNA profile had been checked every month since 2007 against all new DNA data entries. There was a distant genealogy match in 2019. In 2020, a genealogist started working on the case.
A 31-yeard-old Ferndale woman has been charged, accused of trying to run down two people with a truck.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, on Sunday Lacey Hamilton, Vickroy Avenue, and two people had a heated argument at Hamilton’s home.
During the argument, Hamilton allegedly told the two that she was going to “kill” them.
The two people told police that Hamilton was “drunk and high.”
According to the affidavit, after the two people left the home following the argument, Hamilton drove a red Dodge Truck on a sidewalk along Ferndale Avenue and tried to strike the two — who were on foot.
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP – A Blair County man is accused of using a fraudulent check to purchase cellphones and service plans in excess of $2,000 at The Johnstown Galleria.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring Friday in Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania, the scene of the country’s largest and best known Groundhog Day celebration in the United States.

AMSTERDAM, NY (WRGB ) — Authorities confirmed that the tankers being hauled on a freight train, that derailed in New York, were empty. Earlier in the day, authorities were concerned that the train was hauling residuals of fuel. Several tanker cars derailed Friday around 7:52 a.m. in Cranesville near Amsterdam, according authorities. No injuries were reported due to the wreckage.

U.S. marshals in Philadelphia said 17-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn was taken into custody Monday in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood after more than a year on the run. Authorities said he jumped from a fourth-story window in an unsuccessful effort to elude capture and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. (TND) — A bag containing almost $5,000 that was supposed to be deposited at the bank didn't get to its destination.
Instead, a cashier at that 7-Eleven gas station in Florida was taken to jail.
According to her arrest report, another employee told the manager the bag containing $4,840 from Friday, April 26, was missing.
The manager showed up at “the store to review the video cameras” and reported seeing “the deposit bag on the floor next to the safe at 0825 hours on 4/28/2024.
PITTSBURGH - Two-time Super Bowl champion and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison announced Monday that he is retiring from the NFL after 15 seasons.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa (WHP) — Two people are dead and several others injured after a shooting in Harrisburg Tuesday night.
According to police, officers responded to the first block of South 15th Street around 8:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
When they arrived on scene, officers found two men and a woman with gunshot wounds.
The victims were taken to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Both men later died from their wounds.

BALTIMORE, Md. (7News) — Nearly eight weeks after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in Baltimore, Maryland, the container ship that caused the deadly wreck was finally moved. High tide was just before 5:30 in the morning -- that's when crews in Baltimore worked to refloat the M/V DALI cargo ship with the help of tugboats to move it to the Baltimore marine terminal.

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Blair County are providing new details on the investigation into an Easter Sunday stabbing involving two teenage girls.
Police have now filed charges against a 53-year-old Tyrone man after learning that he allegedly initiated the attack.
According to the affidavit, on April 9th, police were dispatched to the 100 block of West 12th Street, in Tyrone Borough, for a reported armed robbery.
Police say when officers arrived on scene, they discovered a 15-year-old female who had suffered multiple stab wounds after being attacked by another juvenile.
(TCS) — Georgia tax officials collected more than $3.9 billion in April, a decrease of 5.4% or $225.7 million from last year.
So far this fiscal year, net tax revenue of more than $27.4 billion is down about 1.2% or $341.3 million from last year. While fiscal 2024 collections have decreased from fiscal 2023 and fiscal 2022 numbers, they remain higher than they were at the same time in fiscal 2019, fiscal 2020 and fiscal 2021, according to unaudited numbers released at the time.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — A Johnstown dentist is facing felony charges Wednesday, after police said he was illegally prescribing pain medication.
Police said 56-year-old Thomas Bach, whose dentistry office is located on 504 Franklin Street, is facing a number of charges involving the administering of controlled substances by practice and refusing to keep records.
Police say they were contacted by a DEA agent in July 2018 who told them there were reports of large quantities of hydrocodone and ibuprofen being ordered to Bach’s practice.
NORTHERN CAMBRIA – A Northern Cambria man was arrested over the weekend after police had been searching for him for two months.
Police said James Mccachren, 21, of the 2000 block of Railroad Avenue, assaulted a man in August at an apartment on Bigler Avenue.
The man was taken to Conemaugh Miners Medical Center in Hastings for treatment of a bruised temple and swollen lip.
Mccachren is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault, and harassment.
STATE COLLEGE -- Patton Twp. Police confirm a man's body was found in bathroom of a Megabus heading from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh on Thursday.
The bus is an active crime scene.
It is located in the parking lot of the Walmart on North Atherton St., where it had stopped to drop off passengers.
The Centre County Coroner is on the scene.
The bus driver told 6 News he opened the restroom door and the person fell out.
A bill that said student teachers in Pennsylvania will be paid passed through the State House. Lawmakers said they are proposing student teachers get a grant of $10,000 with this bill.
The bill says the grant money would come from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.
It said teachers who take in a student teacher would also be rewarded $2,500.
Officials said there are over 5,000 student teachers in the state each year.

Sullivan surpassed Eddie Johnston after coaching his 517th game as a member of the Penguins.

After 14 long weeks, Salvatore Hairstyling in Westmont finally reopened.
The family business returned at 50% occupancy, with each stylist only working with one client at a time.
Some of the new guidelines for the salon include now having to display hand sanitizer, cleaning off each station after every client, wearing a mask and sanitizing frequently.
The Ridgetop Volleyball Club said two of its teams qualified for a national tournament coming up.
They said a 16U and 17U team are leaving Sunday for a four-day tournament in Florida starting Monday, June 26 with championship games being played Thursday, June 29.
Coaches and players said the tournament will be a grind with at least three games to play each day.
The club said a 14U team represented them at nationals last week.
JOHNSTOWN - Ferndale police have arrested a man in connection to a series of robberies.
Police were notified a person matching the robbery suspect’s identity was walking down the street on Thursday evening.
That’s when Ferndale police apprehended Leonard Louchart.
East Taylor Township believed Louchart robbed the Martin General store on William Penn Avenue on Tuesday.
Johnstown police said they believe he also robbed the Subway restaurant in Johnstown and the Family Dollar store on Wednesday night.
BEDFORD, Pa. (WJAC) — The Bedford Fall Foliage Festival Committee announced Monday night that the 2020 Bedford Fall Foliage Festival has been canceled due to the pandemic. It was scheduled to take place in October.
According to the Bedford Fall Foliage Committee, they were planning to wait until Labor Day to decide on this year's festival. According to their Facebok post, they don't believe Governor Wolf would relax the mandated limit of 250 people at an outdoor event.
EBENSBURG – The Cambria County District Attorney’s Office used multiple forfeiture accounts to pay at least $13,000 in food-related expenses over the last five years, records obtained by 6 News show.
Records provided to 6 News also show that District Attorney Kelly Callihan spent more than $10,000 from federal forfeiture dollars to pay for outside counsel to work for the district attorney’s office on two Right-to-Know request appeals this past summer.

A ribbon cutting for a new game room happened Wednesday morning at Friendship Village Campground in Bedford.
Betsie Neff, one of the owners of Friendship Village, said they always had a game room at the campground, but took it over after the previous owners of the room told them they were going out of business.

Mifflin County, PA (WJAC) — The Mifflin County coroner's office has positively identified the human remains that were found on a Brown Township property earlier this month.
Authorities say the remains are those of 51-year-old Joseph Anthony Shymanski, of Huntingtown, Maryland, who was reported missing on Labor Day.
Police say the missing persons investigation led authorities to the home of 47-year-old Brandon Holbrook, who has since been charged with murder in connection to Shymanski's disappearance.
JENNERSTOWN - Jenner Township Assistant Fire Chief Mike Novak is calling Corey’s Corral in Somerset County a total loss after an overnight fire.
Fire crews were called to the bar around 2:10 a.m. Friday.
The bar had closed less than one hour before the crews arrived on scene.
Officials said there was no one inside the two-story structure when the fire started.
Novak said it took eight different fire crews to help put out the flames.

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly made a trade for Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi.
As part of the trade, Pittsburgh is sending minor league pitcher Jack Hartman to the Rays.
Choi was a member of the Rays 2020 team that lost the World Series to the LA Dodgers.
Choi has played in over 400 games with the Rays, in 4-and-a-half seasons, tallying 320 total hits, which included 52 homeruns and 203 RBIs.
Cellular outages reported nationwide early Thursday morning left many without service. The outage left people trying to figure out ways around the issue. AT&T stated its customers saw an "SOS" message and advised them to connect to Wi-Fi to make calls.
What is the SOS mode?According to Apple Support, the message indicates that the device is having trouble connecting to their cellular provider’s network, but it can make emergency calls through other carrier networks.

The Bedford County Coroner's Office said the remains belonged to Robert Cochran, 47, of Canajoharie, New York.

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — The Altoona Driver License Center will be closing for renovations this Saturday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
PennDOT said in a release the center will be closed starting Jan. 12 at 4:15 p.m. and will reopen for both photo services and driver licensing services Feb. 6.

Chief Sheehan says that two of the people "self-rescued" themselves and were able to climb back onto the ice.

Bedford Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Bedford County have charged a Buffalo Mills man with multiple sex crimes after he was accused of having a "sexual relationship" with a female student.
Troopers say Jarrod Clapper, 24, faces felony counts of sexual contact with a student in/near a school, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor, according to online court documents.
Authorities say in January of this year, troopers were contacted by a school resource officer for the Bedford Area School District to report a possible sexual relationship between a female student and a member of the school's IT department.

MILFORD, Pa. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 21 to 42 years in prison in the slaying of his teenage girlfriend, whose body was found buried on a llama farm in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Twenty-seven-year-old Sky McDonough of Milford was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier to third-degree murder and custodial interference.
Prosecutors in Pike County said 17-year-old Leanna Walker left home with the McDonough in April 2016, and they camped in several locations, including the Milford Township llama farm where he used to work.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A Union Pacific freight train derailed on the east end of the Steel Bridge on Monday morning, forcing the closure of the entire bridge for several hours.
The train derailed shortly after 6 a.m. on the railroad tracks on the lower deck of the bridge. Shortly before 10:30 a.m., the bridge was reopened to traffic and an Amtrak train was seen going along the tracks.
Firefighters said six cars were involved and two of them were lumber cars.
DECATUR, Ill. (WICS) — An African wild animal is on the loose in in Illinois, according to the Macon County Animal Control and Care Center. The organization said the animal escaped from its owner and is believed to be on the northeast side of the city of Decatur.
It wasn't immediately known how it escaped.
Officials said they are working with an exotic animal rescue to capture the serval. They added they consider it to be dangerous because it is classified as a wild animal.

(TND) — A pair of muscle cars top the list of most-stolen vehicles for model years 2020-22, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute.
Theft claims for the top car, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, were more than 60 times more frequent than the average for all 2020-22 models, the HLDI said.
The list features vehicles that are valuable and powerful, HLDI’s director of insurance outreach Kay Wakeman said.
“That's reflected in the top two vehicles on the list,” she said.
JOHNSTOWN - The battle over the sale of a Johnstown building has come to an end as a judge ruled in favor of CamTran over Coal Tubin’.
While CamTran Chairman Ed Cernic Jr. said he's happy with the ruling.
But Coal Tubin's attorney, Wayne Langerholc, said his client is disappointed and plans to appeal the court's decision.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide-receiver Martavis Bryant is returning to the NFL after being suspended from the league for nearly five years.
Reports indicate that he is signing a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
Bryant was drafted by Pittsburgh in 2014 out of Clemson University.

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — A Pennsylvania woman has filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Johnstown, the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority and the Tyrone-based company G&R Excavating and Demolition after she claims that they "improperly" demolished a warehouse that she owned.
According to the lawsuit, filed on behalf of Zipporah Najar, the demolition reportedly took place along the 100 block of Adams Street in February of 2022.

SEWARD, Pa (WJAC) — Pleasure Valley Raceway in Seward, Indiana County, is hosting the Jeremiah Jones Summer ATV National Championship this weekend.
Jones was an up and coming professional quad racer when an accident on a track severed his spinal cord and paralyzed him from the waist down.
Participants were out practicing Friday ahead of Saturday’s races.
The amateurs will race four laps and the professionals will race for 20 minutes plus one lap.
EBENSBURG — Cambria County will spend more than $77,000 on an X-ray scanner for the county prison, in the wake of two incidents earlier this year in which two female inmates overdosed inside the prison.
The scanner, which the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection didn't allow inside prisons until recently, will help keep contraband including drugs and weapons out of the prison, said Cambria County Prison Warden Christian Smith.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Officials in Somerset County say cars came crashing down after the truck they were being carried on crashed into the Turnpike Bridge in Somerset Township.

The Cambria County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who died in a fatal motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon on Route 219.
According to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees, 54-year-old Mark L. McCleaf from Shippensburg and his wife were leaving Thunder in the Valley to head home riding east on the 56 bypass onto Route 219 south at approximately 4:17 P.M.
Lees says the motorcycle did not make the curve and both riders were ejected from the bike.

Authorities say a 42-year-old Altoona man has been charged with allegedly raping a woman at her home in March.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, the woman told authorities that she was at the Kettle Inn Bar and Grill in Altoona, on March 18, when Robert German, and another man, joined her and her friends.
The woman told police that she remembered buying a round of drinks for the group and started to sense that something was off with the encounter, according to the affidavit.

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Lawrence Township Police Department say the manager of a Clearfield County McDonald's is facing charges, accused of stealing hundreds of dollars from the fast-food restaurant located along South Second Street.
Police say charges are pending against 54-year-old Kelly Bennett after an investigation revealed that she had issued dozens of unauthorized refunds to herself.
Investigators say Bennett allegedly made 66 unauthorized transactions, between October and November of this year.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WJAC/AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, 24, has died after being struck by a dump truck on an interstate in Broward County Fla., Florida Highway Patrol confirmed.
The news was first reported by his agent to ESPN Saturday morning.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Johnstown Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia has resigned, the team announced Monday morning.
Letizia has been a member of the Tomahawks' coaching staff for all 12 seasons, including 10 as the head coach.

MULTNOMAH FALLS, Ore. (KATU) — A young woman fell to her death on Sunday afternoon in the Columbia River Gorge. Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Deputy John Plock said the woman fell off a cliff Sunday around 4:20 p.m. near the Oneonta Trailhead.
Cascade Locks Fire responded to the scene and determined the woman was deceased.
“These are difficult hiking trails, they’re not walking paths,” Plock said. “If you go off trail, it can be very dangerous.
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Clearfield Borough Police Department say a local man is facing charges after he allegedly fired over a dozen gunshots across a local roadway.
Police say 30-year-old Shawn Youngblood is accused of firing approximately 14 rounds across Bigler Ave. in late February.
Investigators say surveillance video from a nearby business allegedly showed Youngblood fire the gun while he appears to be intoxicated.
Police say at one point, Youngblood appears to aim the gun at a passing car but does not pull the trigger until after the car has left.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A New Jersey man who spent years in law enforcement will now be among those behind bars.
David De Jesus, a suspended New Jersey state trooper, was sentenced Friday to serve 60 days to 23-and-a-half months in the Centre County Prison for an incident that occurred at a State College hotel last year.
He previously pleaded guilty to charges of false imprisonment and providing alcohol to a minor.

Huntingdon County Coroner Paul Sharum says 33-year-old Brandon Green, of Cherry Run, WV, was killed Saturday in a drowning accident.
Dispatchers confirmed over the weekend that rescue crews, from multiple counties, were called to Raystown Lake to search for a missing individual.
Sharum has ruled Green's death as accidental.

Johnstown, Pa — It was last month when a Cambria County post office announced it was potentially going to close its doors for good due to a lease dispute.
However, that is no longer the case.
An official with the United States Postal Service tells 6 News the Beaverdale Post Office will no longer be suspending its service and residents are thrilled.

According to police, they have an arrest warrant for 39-year-old Randy Gerard Cassell. Police said the incident took place in Huntingdon Borough.
According to police, Cassell is five feet, four inches tall. They report he has hazel eyes and a shaved head. Police said Cassell was last seen wearing an orange shirt.
LOGAN TWP., Pa. (WJAC) — According to police, one person is dead following a head-on collision on Colonel Drake Highway near Ashville on Wednesday.

According to authorities, the two-vehicle crash involved a Ford truck and a Dodge Grand Caravan. Police reported the truck was on fire and the driver was lifeflighted to Pittsubrgh with severe burns.

UPDATE | Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — Officials with the Punxsutawney Area School District confirmed to 6 News that the school board has officially accepted the resignation of co-principal Paul Hetrick.
District officials say Hetrick submitted his resignation on Monday and the school board voted to approve it on Tuesday.
Hetrick said in a statement that he was resigning from his position due to "personal struggles."
The school district confirmed that Hetrick is no longer an employee and a disciplinary hearing that was scheduled for next week has now been cancelled.

MACCLENNY, Fla. (WPEC) — A babysitter in Florida is facing an aggravated manslaughter charge after she left a 10-month-old girl in a hot car, according to the Baker County Sheriff's Office (BCSO).
Rhonda Jewell, 46, picked up a 10-month-old infant from the child’s mother Wednesday and has watched the child on multiple occasions since June, deputies said. First responders in Pittsburgh say 17 people were taken to the hospital Saturday night during the concert.

EBENSBURG, Pa. - Conemaugh Health System officials announced Friday they have purchased land in Ebensburg to construct a $22 million outpatient center.
The planned 40,000-square-foot building will be constructed at the intersection of routes 219 and 22.

Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Somerset County say a man is behind bars after he reportedly assaulted and threatened a woman over the weekend, and then stole her car, all while the two were traveling along Route 219.
Police say on Saturday, officers were dispatched to Route 219 southbound, near the Jerome exit, for a report of a domestic disturbance.
Investigators say the victim told officers that she was driving her vehicle along the highway and that 42-year-old Justin Klink, who is known to her, was in the passenger seat.

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Raystown Lake have announced on Facebook that Tatman Run Beach has reopened.
According to the post, a water sample tested Wednesday showed that E. coli bacteria levels were back within the “safe” range for swimming.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Middle Tennessee mother has been arrested after her one-month-old apparently overdosed.
A one-month-old girl is taken to Hendersonville Hospital on Sunday after she started vomiting and changing colors, said Metro Nashville Police. They transported the infant to TriStar Centennial Children's Hospital in Nashville for further evaluation, where the patient tested positive for 1.0ng/ml of Fentanyl.
The police were notified and a detective from Youth Services Division Crimes Against Children responded to the hospital.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) — An Ohio landlord was jailed after his rental properties were found to be "unsafe for human habitation," reports noted. According to The Columbus Dispatch, Joseph Alaura, a landlord in Columbus, was sentenced to 175 days behind bars after the city discovered multiple violations at his 32 properties. BROCKPORT - The Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department will unveil its new home Aug. 13.
Fire Captain PJ Piccirillo said the company will have an open house and ribbon cutting of the new fire station at 2 p.m. at 6921 Route 219. The public is invited to attend.
The new 3,800-square-foot station houses the department's fire engine, rescue/pumper, tanker and utility brush truck.
Piccirillo said the new location will help improve response times by more than 10 minutes per call to better serve the 1,400 residents in the 57-square-mile area.

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — A former Alabama dentist was sentenced to serve 180 years in prison for rape, sodomy and sexual abuse inflicted on former employees and patients from his dental office.
Deputy District Attorney of Etowah County Carol Griffith said 44-year-old Joseph Clarence Cox was found guilty by a jury in January.
Griffith said Cox was arrested in April 2021, following an extensive investigation by Gadsden Police Department. At trial, evidence showed that there was a large employee turnover within his office between June 2020 and April 2021, due to Cox’s inappropriate sexual contact with employees.
RUSHVILLE, Ill. (WICS) — A parent who lost two of her children in a deadly Illinois crash is suing the school district.
Sarah Miller is the mother of Maria and Andrew Miller, two preschoolers who lost their lives following the crash. According to court documents, she’s suing the Schuyler Industry Community School District.
In March, Schuyler County bus driver Angela Spiker picked up three children on the way to afternoon preschool instruction.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in York County that left one dead and three others injured Saturday morning.
According to a press release, state police were notified of a multi-vehicle crash on I-83 at Exit 40A in Fairview Township just before 1:30 a.m.
State police said that, when responders arrived on scene, a 21-year-old female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The press release states that three other people involved in the crash were transported to Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center to be evaluated for their injuries.

Elk County, PA (WJAC) — Officials with the Domtar Corporation in Johnsonburg have confirmed that two people were injured at their mill in Elk County last week.
The company says the incident happened Thursday afternoon at their paper mill on Center Street.
According to a company statement, two contractor employees were injured while working on a chip conveyor tunnel.

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Police say a DuBois woman provided methamphetamine to a 12-year-old child.
According to the City of DuBois Police Department, 37-year-old Amanda Coder faces charges related to endangering the welfare of children along with corruption of minors.
Police say they were called in Sept. for reports of Coder possibly providing or smoking meth with the child at her Quarry Ave. Apartment.
They say Children and Youth Services were contacted and found traces of meth in the child’s urine but neither the child, nor Coder disclosed why the drug would have been present.

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — As the stalemate over the state budget continues, also still to be decided is the state funding for the upcoming school year for Penn State, Pitt, and two other universities.
Last week, Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Austin Davis, a Pitt graduate, spoke at Penn State.

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly signing wide-receiver Van Jefferson to a one-year deal.
Steelers inside reporter Gerry Dulac says the move is for "depth purposes."
Jefferson was drafted by the LA Rams in 2020 and was part of their Super Bowl championship team in 2021.
He was then traded to the Atlanta Falcons last season.

Authorities say Kelsi Sturtz is being housed at the Somerset County Prison on contraband and drug possession related charges.

The Hanover Foods Corporation has a processing plant in Centre Hall and last year, the labor department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration opened an investigation there and has now cited the company with 70 violations.
OSHA claims the plant was in violation of dozens of safety and health hazard regulations.

Authorities say a tree fell on wires near Gilbert Street and Wall Street in Brownstown Friday morning. The downed wires caused power outages in the area. EAST TAYLOR, Pa. (WJAC) — Update #2: Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said one person died following Friday morning's crash on William Penn Avenue in East Taylor Township, Cambria County.
Lees said a woman in her 80's was driving northbound on Route 271 when she collided head-on with another vehicle just after 11:30 a.m.
He said the victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded away another fan favorite, sending pitcher Jameson Taillon to the New York Yankees in exchange for four prospects.
Taillon will be reunited with former teammate Gerrit Cole.
