Sarah Miller is the mother of Maria and Andrew Miller, two preschoolers who lost their lives following the crash. According to court documents, she’s suing the Schuyler Industry Community School District.

In March, Schuyler County bus driver Angela Spiker picked up three children on the way to afternoon preschool instruction. Police said Spiker crossed the lane while driving and crashed into David Coufal, a 72-year-old semi-truck driver.

The collision caused both vehicles to become engulfed in flames, resulting in the death of five people.

The complaint said the bus driver violated her duty to “exercise ordinary care at all times to avoid placing others in danger and to exercise ordinary care at all times to avoid a collision.”

The lawsuit said Miller has suffered grief, sorrow, mental suffering, and loss of society.

Miller is suing the school district in excess of $50,000 for both Maria and Andrew.

WICS reached Schuyler Industry Community School District for comment but was not able to be connected with the superintendent.

On Wednesday, WICS met with Schuyler County Coroner Terry Millsagle and discussed the toxicology reports of both drivers.

The coroner saID he found no traces of illicit drug use. The report shows traces of prescription medication that were within normal range.

Millslagle said a toxicology report does not look into the cause of death.

Toxicology reports are just looking for medications, narcotics, substances in the subject's blood," he said.

Millslage said a report stating the cause of the crash could take 18 to 24 months.

The NTSB is investigating the crash.
