One person dead, another injured, after motorcycle accident in Richland Township

The Cambria County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who died in a fatal motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon on Route 219.

According to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees, 54-year-old Mark L. McCleaf from Shippensburg and his wife were leaving Thunder in the Valley to head home riding east on the 56 bypass onto Route 219 south at approximately 4:17 P.M.

Lees says the motorcycle did not make the curve and both riders were ejected from the bike.

The riders, who were not wearing helmets, were taken to the hospital where McCleaf died in the emergency room at 4:49 P.M., according to Lees.

Lees says the Richland Police Department is investigating the crash.

One person has died and a second person was hospitalized after a motorcycle crashed Saturday.

It happened near the interchange with the Johnstown Expressway and Route 219 southbound around 4:20 p.m. Saturday.

Cambria County 911 reported one motorcycle was involved. One of the injured was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, and a second person was taken to Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees confirmed one of the injured people later died. He said more information would be released on Sunday.

The area around the crash was closed off while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
