Steelers release veteran WR Allen Robinson

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — According to multiple reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are releasing veteran wide-receiver Allen Robinson. NFL Insider Adam Schefter says the decision will save Pittsburgh approximately $10 million in cap space. The Steelers traded for Robinson last offseason, adding a veteran presence to the receiver room. Robinson played in all 17 games last season for Pittsburgh, catching 34 passes for 280 total yards but no touchdowns. The 30-year-old wideout previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears and the LA Rams.

Suspect in Oakhurst double shooting waives hearing; charges bound for court

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The suspect accused of shooting two people last September at Oakhurst homes, killing one of them and wounding the other, appeared in Cambria County court on Tuesday where he waived his preliminary hearing. In October, Jashon Gordon was arrested in Ohio in connection to the Sept. 22 shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Emerald Nugent Jr. Officials say Nugent died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

Bellefonte Area School District adds third option to back-to-school plan

BELLEFONTE, Pa — Just last week, the Bellefonte Area School District updated their back-to-school plan for the fall. They already had two options in place, but, after hearing community feedback and seeing additional state guidelines, school district officials added a third option. Students living in the district now have the choice to participate in a hybrid learning plan. Officials say this will allow them to attend in-person classes twice a week, and then virtual classrooms for the other remaining days.

DUNCANSVILLE/BLAIR COUNTY, Pa — A Duncansville eye practice is using a new augmented-reality device made by Florida-based company Heru to diagnose severe conditions in patients. This AR-like headset can detect serious eye diseases like Glaucoma in minutesand it’s being used right here in Blair County. Dr. Greg Caldwell, an optometrist at Enhanced Eye Care, says he came across the device a little over a year ago. “To be able to detect serious diseases like Glaucoma in a relatively 4-5 minute period of time, that is what’s probably one of the best things about visual field technology,” he said.

Penguins miss playoffs for second straight year

The Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the NHL playoffs for the second straight season after the Washington Capitals defeated the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night to earn the final wild card spot. Pittsburgh needed regulation losses by both Washington and the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday in order to have a chance at making the playoffs. Now, Game #82 will have no meaning for the Penguins, as they take on the New York Islanders Wednesday night.
