HAZLE TWP, LUZERNE COUNTY - WOLF — UPDATE 2/10/22: State Police in Hazleton are releasing more details around the 57-year cold case that was solved this week. 9-year-old Marise Ann Chiverella was raped and murdered on March 18, 1964. Her case went cold. The killer's DNA profile had been checked every month since 2007 against all new DNA data entries. There was a distant genealogy match in 2019. In 2020, a genealogist started working on the case.

Ferndale woman charged with attempted vehicular assault after heated argument

A 31-yeard-old Ferndale woman has been charged, accused of trying to run down two people with a truck. According to a probable-cause affidavit, on Sunday Lacey Hamilton, Vickroy Avenue, and two people had a heated argument at Hamilton’s home. During the argument, Hamilton allegedly told the two that she was going to “kill” them. The two people told police that Hamilton was “drunk and high.” According to the affidavit, after the two people left the home following the argument, Hamilton drove a red Dodge Truck on a sidewalk along Ferndale Avenue and tried to strike the two — who were on foot.

(AP) — Authorities say a man was rescued after at least three days at the bottom of an abandoned stone cistern near the landmark Pagoda overlooking the eastern Pennsylvania city of Reading. The Reading Eagle reports that the man was healthy enough to climb out on his own on a city fire department rope ladder Friday morning. Fire department rescuers were dispatched shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday after police found him underground through the 3-foot-wide opening near the concrete steps at the foot of the stairs leading to the century-old landmark atop Mount Penn.
