PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring Friday in Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania, the scene of the country’s largest and best known Groundhog Day celebration in the United States.
The annual event is a tongue-in-cheek ritual in which Phil’s handlers, members of a club with roots in the late 19th century, reveal whether the groundhog has seen his shadow.
Just after sunrise Friday, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club announced Phil did not see his shadow, which will usher in early springlike weather.
AMSTERDAM, NY (WRGB ) — Authorities confirmed that the tankers being hauled on a freight train, that derailed in New York, were empty. Earlier in the day, authorities were concerned that the train was hauling residuals of fuel. Several tanker cars derailed Friday around 7:52 a.m. in Cranesville near Amsterdam, according authorities. No injuries were reported due to the wreckage.

Instead, a cashier at that 7-Eleven gas station in Florida was taken to jail.
According to her arrest report, another employee told the manager the bag containing $4,840 from Friday, April 26, was missing.
The manager showed up at “the store to review the video cameras” and reported seeing “the deposit bag on the floor next to the safe at 0825 hours on 4/28/2024.
