PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded forward Jared McCann to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Filip Hallander and a 2023 seventh-round draft pick.
"We are excited to add Filip back to the organization. He is a well-rounded player with good size who plays the game the right way," said Penguins general manager Ron Hextall. "We are grateful to Jared for his contributions to the team and wish him the best.
NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say gunfire at a popular Halloween attraction in western Pennsylvania killed one teenager and critically wounded another - with another teenager being sought as a suspect. Allegheny County police said the shooting was reported at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the Haunted Hills Hayride in North Versailles. First responders found two 15-year-old youths shot and took them to hospitals, where one was pronounced dead in the emergency room and the other was listed in critical condition.
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Officials in Somerset County say cars came crashing down after the truck they were being carried on crashed into the Turnpike Bridge in Somerset Township.
Authorities say the crash happened along Route 281, otherwise known as Stoystown Road, around 3:30 Friday afternoon.
Officials say the truck was loaded too high when it went under the bridge.
In the aftermath, four scrapped cars from Ridge Recycling were laying on the road and were later towed away.
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say two Tyrone women are behind bars following a bomb scare against a Blair County Dollar General on Tuesday.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the store, located along East Pleasant Valley Blvd., after a woman reportedly called and told an employee "your store is getting bombed today."
Police say, upon further investigation, officers were able to identify the caller as 57-year-old Jean Ann Shaffer.
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. — Several officers and civilians in Clearfield County are being recognized for their service this week in honor of National Police Week, according to a press release by Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers.
National Police Week kicks off May 15 on Peace Officers Memorial Day, a day that, since 1962, remembers the men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty.
According to the press release, the purpose of this week is to “pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime.
