Former Alabama dentist receives 180-year sentence for sexual abuse of patients and staff

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — A former Alabama dentist was sentenced to serve 180 years in prison for rape, sodomy and sexual abuse inflicted on former employees and patients from his dental office. Deputy District Attorney of Etowah County Carol Griffith said 44-year-old Joseph Clarence Cox was found guilty by a jury in January. Griffith said Cox was arrested in April 2021, following an extensive investigation by Gadsden Police Department. At trial, evidence showed that there was a large employee turnover within his office between June 2020 and April 2021, due to Cox’s inappropriate sexual contact with employees.

Mother sues school district after losing two children in Illinois bus crash

RUSHVILLE, Ill. (WICS) — A parent who lost two of her children in a deadly Illinois crash is suing the school district. Sarah Miller is the mother of Maria and Andrew Miller, two preschoolers who lost their lives following the crash. According to court documents, she’s suing the Schuyler Industry Community School District. In March, Schuyler County bus driver Angela Spiker picked up three children on the way to afternoon preschool instruction.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in York County that left one dead and three others injured Saturday morning. According to a press release, state police were notified of a multi-vehicle crash on I-83 at Exit 40A in Fairview Township just before 1:30 a.m. State police said that, when responders arrived on scene, a 21-year-old female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The press release states that three other people involved in the crash were transported to Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center to be evaluated for their injuries.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with an airport parking garage shooting that killed a Philadelphia police officer and wounded another, authorities announced Wednesday. Alexander Batista-Polanco, 21, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Hendrick Peña-Fernandez, 21, of Pennsauken, New Jersey, were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, First Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said at a news conference. Police on Monday had said at least two other suspects were being sought as they announced the arrest of Yobranny Martinez Fernandez, 18, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Annual 'Haunted Rails and Tales' event returns to Altoona Railroaders Museum

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — The Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum will soon be hosting its annual "Haunted Rails and Tales" event. The first event will be held Saturday evening, and then again on the evenings of the 15th and 22nd. Each evening will have two tour times: 6 p.m. and then again at 7:30 p.m. Organizers will be employing local actors to portray the unfortunate fates that befell real people from Altoona during the height of its railroad operations.
